Company overview

Albion Motors was founded in 1899 by Thomas Blackwood Murray and Norman Osborne Fulton. Initially a Scottish automobile manufacturer, it began with seven employees in a small Glasgow workshop. In 1903, the company moved to Scotstoun and began producing passenger cars, including models like the Albion 8, 12, and 16. By 1909, Albion shifted its focus to commercial vehicles, building trucks for the War Office during World War I. In 1951, Leyland Motors acquired Albion, and production continued under the Leyland brand until 1972. Vehicle manufacturing then moved to the British Leyland plant at Bathgate, with component production continuing at Scotstoun until 1980. Albion also produced buses, including the Viking and Venturer models, which were exported globally. During World War II, Albion manufactured Enfield No 2 Mk I* revolvers. In 1986, British Leyland was renamed Rover Group, and in 1987, the Albion component manufacturing plant became part of Leyland DAF. Finally, in 1993, DAF went into receivership, and Albion Automotive was created to continue truck component manufacturing.
