Company overview

Allard Motor Company Limited was established in 1945 by Sydney Allard in Clapham, London. The company initially produced car replicas based on Bugatti designs before transitioning to its own low-volume models. Allard’s early cars, such as the J1 and J2, featured American V8 engines in British chassis and bodywork, foreshadowing designs like the Sunbeam Tiger and AC Cobra. The company built a range of models including the J, K, L, M, and P series, utilizing Ford mechanicals and bodywork. The J2 was particularly notable for its international racing success, with Zora Arkus-Duntov and Carroll Shelby driving versions. Production ceased in 1958 due to financial difficulties and a lack of competitiveness against newer, more affordable vehicles. The company’s final models included the P1 saloon and the Palm Beach roadster, with a notable attempt to capitalize on the microcar market. Later in the 1990s, Chris Humberstone licensed the Allard name to create the P4 prototype racer, a collaboration with Toyota that ultimately failed.
