Company overview

Aprilia is an Italian motorcycle and scooter manufacturer based in Noale, Italy. Founded by Alberto Beggio after World War II, the company initially produced bicycles before transitioning to motorcycles in 1968. Ivano Beggio took over leadership in 1968 and began producing mopeds, including the Colibrì, Daniela, and Packi. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Aprilia expanded its offerings to include enduro, trials, and road bikes, utilizing Rotax engines for some models. In 1986, Aprilia introduced the AF1 and Tuareg for African rallies. The company entered the Superbike World Championship in 1999 with the RSV Mille and later acquired Moto Guzzi and Laverda in 2000. In 2004, Aprilia was acquired by Piaggio & C. SpA, becoming part of the world’s fourth largest motorcycle group. Aprilia has achieved significant success in racing, winning numerous Grand Prix and World Championships across various classes, including 250cc, 125cc, and Superbike. As of 2010, Aprilia surpassed MV Agusta in motorcycle racing victories.
