Company overview

Bitter Automobil GmbH is a German automobile manufacturer specializing in luxury sports cars. Founded by Erich Bitter in 1971, the company initially focused on rebodying existing vehicles, beginning with the Opel Coupé Diplomat (CD) in 1973. Production continued through 1989, with subsequent prototypes and limited-volume models following. The company’s most recognizable model is the CD, a three-door hatchback coupe based on the Opel Senator. Later models included the Vero (2007), Vero Sport (2009), and various luxury versions of current Opel models such as the Insignia, Adam, Mokka, and Corsa. Production ceased in 2012, with a resumption of small-scale production in 2007. The company’s history is marked by collaborations with other manufacturers, including Opel and GM, as well as Italian coachbuilders like OCRA and Maggiora. The Bitter Blazer (1976) and Super Aero (1978), along with the Type 3 and Tasco, represent a series of prototypes that never reached serial production.
