Company overview

Byton was a Chinese-German automotive brand established in 2017. It operated as a subsidiary of China Harmony New Energy Auto Holding Limited and was co-founded by Carsten Breitfeld and Daniel Kirchert. In 2016, Future Mobility initiated a joint venture with Tencent, Foxconn, and Harmony New Energy Auto. The company planned to produce the M-Byte SUV and K-Byte sedan, initially targeting sales in China, Europe, and the United States. Byton announced a manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China, with an initial production capacity of 150,000 vehicles. In 2018, First Auto Works invested a significant amount of money in the company. Byton suspended operations for corporate reorganization in June 2020, and its German subsidiary entered bankruptcy in April 2021. Foxconn was slated to partner with Byton, investing $200 million and assisting with manufacturing. Operations in China were suspended in July 2021, and Byton’s manufacturing partner halted production indefinitely.
