Company overview

The Erskine was an automobile produced by the Studebaker Corporation from 1926 to 1930. Albert Russel Erskine, Studebaker’s president during its production, initiated the development of advanced engines. This led to racing wins and increased sales in the upper price range. Erskine sought to introduce a short-wheelbase compact car, aiming to expand Studebaker’s presence in Europe. The Erskine Six debuted initially in Paris for the 1927 model year, utilizing six-cylinder Continental engines. Ray Dietrich designed the car’s body, which received positive reviews from European press outlets. Sales initially showed promise but were overtaken by the Ford Model A in 1927. Studebaker increased the car's size, extending its wheelbase to 114 inches. The Erskine then became more similar to other Studebaker models. By May 1930, the Erskine was absorbed into the Studebaker line. Production totaled 24,893 units in 1927, 22,275 in 1928, 25,565 in 1929 and 22,371 in 1930.
