Company overview

Excalibur automobiles were produced between 1963 and 1997. The company began as a venture by Brooks Stevens, who styled the cars after 1928 Mercedes-Benz SSK models. Production initially focused on Studebaker chassis with custom bodywork, later utilizing General Motors engines. Over 3,500 Excalibur cars were built in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with a series of redesigns and production restarts. The company experienced bankruptcy and revival attempts throughout its history. Series I featured a prototype with a Studebaker Lark chassis and a 290 hp V8 engine. Series II incorporated an assembly line process, utilizing chassis from General Motors suppliers and featuring a 350 V8 engine. Series III saw increased production, but with some quality compromises. The Limited Edition 100 (Series IV) marked a significant redesign, with an enclosed rear and updated features. Series V continued the trend of revisions, introducing new models like sedans and limousines. The final series, Series VI, utilized a Corvette engine. Production ceased in 1997.
