Company overview

Facel S.A. began as a French manufacturer of pressed steel components in 1939, initially for military aeronautics subcontracting. Following World War II, the company expanded into automobile production, first supplying coachwork to brands like Panhard, Delahaye and Simca. In 1954, Jean Daninos established Facel Vega as a separate marque, utilizing Chrysler engines to create distinctive vehicles like the HK500. Early models relied on American V8 engines, while later Facellias featured a French-designed four-cylinder engine. Production of the Facellia, intended to compete with European sports cars, faced significant mechanical issues and ultimately led to its discontinuation. The Facel Vega II, introduced in 1962, represented a more successful design shift. Despite its limited production and financial difficulties, Facel Vega vehicles were owned by prominent figures including Pablo Picasso and Ava Gardner. The company ceased operations in 1964.
