Company overview
Ferrari S.p.A., established in 1939 by Enzo Ferrari, is an Italian manufacturer of luxury sports cars. Initially founded as Scuderia Ferrari, a racing team servicing amateur drivers, the company began producing its first cars in 1940 and adopted the name Ferrari in 1945. Publicly traded since 1960, it was a subsidiary of Fiat S.p.A. from 1963 to 2016, subsequently spun off into independent ownership by Piero Ferrari and Exor N.V. As of 2023, Ferrari is one of the world’s largest car manufacturers by market capitalization. The company has a long history in motorsport, most notably through Scuderia Ferrari’s participation in Formula One since 1929. This team has achieved numerous records and championships, including sixteen Constructors' Championships and fifteen Drivers’ Championships. Ferrari’s early success was built on victories in events such as the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio and 24 Hours of Le Mans. The company’s engineering efforts focused on developing a range of vehicles, including the 125 S and later models like the 250 GT Coupé. From 1960, Ferrari began producing mid-engine road cars with the introduction of the Dino and 365 GTB/4. The company’s leadership has included Enzo Ferrari until 1988, followed by Luca di Montezemolo and later Sergio Marchionne and Louis Camilleri. Currently, Benedetto Vigna leads the company with plans to develop its first fully electric model.
