Company overview
Hansa-Automobil Gesellschaft m.b.H was established in 1904 as a German car brand. Initially, the company produced licence-built electric vehicles starting in 1905. Petrol engines were introduced in 1908, but production remained limited. In 1914, the company merged with Lloyd to form Hansa-Lloyd Werke AG. From 1929, the company was integrated into the Borgward group after Carl F. W. Borgward purchased Hansa. Automobile production ceased in 1931. Robert Allmers founded the ‘Gemeinschaft der Deutschen Automobilfabriken’ in 1920. The company developed several models, including the Treff-Aß and Trumpf-Aß during the interwar years. In 1923, the Hansa-Lloyd 16/80 with an eight-cylinder engine was presented. The 20/100 and later the 8-cylinder Hansa Imperator were produced until 1930. After World War II, Borgward reintroduced the Hansa brand in 1949 with the Hansa-1500. Later, Borgward produced Hansa 2400 and sold the former Goliath 1100 under the Hansa brand name until 1961.
