Company overview

Horch was a German car manufacturer founded in 1899 by August Horch. Initially based in Cologne and later moving to Zwickau, the company evolved through several mergers and acquisitions. In 1909, August Horch established Audiwerke GmbH as a solution to trademark disputes. In 1932, Horch, Audi, DKW, and Wanderer merged to form Auto Union. During World War II, the factories suffered damage and were subsequently operated under Soviet control in East Germany. After reunification, Volkswagen acquired the Zwickau site and reintroduced the Audi brand in 1964. A rare 1937 Horch 853A Sport Cabriolet sold for $299,000 in 2006. The Auto Union logo represents the merger of these four brands, and Horch vehicles were among the first to feature eight-cylinder engines in series production.
