Company overview
Hummer is an American brand of pickups and SUVs. It was launched in 1992 when AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 Humvee. The initial vehicles, the H1 and H2, were based on military designs and produced by AM General under contract with General Motors. GM purchased the brand in 1999 and continued to market the vehicles, introducing new models like the H3. Production of the H1 ceased in 2006, while the H2 and H3 were produced until 2010. In 2019, GM considered reviving the brand, and in 2020, Hummer returned as an electric model under GMC. The new models are not a standalone brand but are sold as part of the GMC lineup, beginning with the Hummer EV SUT and SUV. Production facilities were located in Mishawaka, Indiana; Port Elizabeth, South Africa; Shreveport, Louisiana and Kaliningrad, Russia. The brand faced criticism regarding its size, fuel economy, and safety features.
