Company overview
Isdera was founded in 1982 in Leonberg, Germany, as an exclusive builder of small-series sports cars. Initially, the company focused on producing vehicles based on Mercedes-Benz components and designs, most notably the CW311 concept. The first model, the Spyder, debuted in 1982 and featured a modified Mercedes-Benz engine. Subsequent models included the Imperator 108i, offering various V8 engines, and the Commendatore 112i, a unique vehicle with gull-wing doors and advanced features. In 1999, Isdera introduced the Silver Arrow C112i, a high-performance car with a massive V12 engine. Later, Eberhard Schulz developed the Autobahnkurier AK116i, a retro-styled vehicle with twin V8 engines. In 2017, Isdera partnered with WM Motor to develop electric vehicles and co-branded models. In 2021, the brand was acquired by Xinghui Automotive Group and rebranded as Isdera Automotive. In 2025, the German-registered company Isdera AG filed for bankruptcy, though the brand continued under Chinese ownership. Currently, Isdera Automotive operates a new R&D center in TaiCang and construction center in Anhui, China, and launched its first in-house model, the L’AQUILA, in 2025.
