Company overview

Kieft Cars was founded in Bridgend, Wales, by Cyril Kieft. He began with forging and pressings for the motor industry before focusing on motorsport. Kieft acquired designs from Marwyn, a Formula Three car manufacturer, and adapted them into his own 500cc racing cars. These cars gained attention through record attempts at Montlhéry, France, with driver Stirling Moss providing commentary on their limitations. The company relocated to Derry Street, Wolverhampton, and developed a new design based on the ‘Freikaiserwagen’ suspension system. In 1951, a Kieft car won the Formula Three event at Goodwood. Between 1953 and 1954, Kieft designed a Formula One car intended for a Coventry-Climax engine. Later, the company produced a two-seater sports car in 1954, utilizing a Coventry Climax engine and independent suspension. Kieft sold the company to Berwyn Baxter in 1954, after which it moved to Birmingham and shifted its focus to preparing and tuning cars for other manufacturers. Plans for a return to manufacturing Kieft cars were ultimately unsuccessful.
