Company overview

KTM AG, an Austrian company established in 1934, is a manufacturer of motorcycles and bicycles. Originally known as Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, it began producing DKW motorcycles and Opel cars before transitioning to motorcycle production. Following a period of restructuring, Bajaj Mobility AG now operates KTM-branded motorcycles, while KTM Fahrrad GmbH produces KTM bicycles. KTM is renowned for its off-road motorcycles and participation in MotoGP racing. In 2025, Bajaj Auto acquired a controlling stake in KTM. Currently, KTM operates through two corporate houses: Bajaj Auto and KTM Fahrrad GmbH. The company’s history includes significant milestones such as the introduction of the R100 motorcycle in 1951 and the establishment of KTM North America Inc. in 1978. KTM has achieved success in motorsports, winning over 260 world championship titles across various disciplines including motocross and rally raids. In 2024, KTM initiated self-imposed administration due to heavy debt and subsequently sold its stake in MV Agusta to Bajaj Auto. KTM’s global production facilities are located in Austria, India (in partnership with Bajaj), and China (in partnership with CFMoto). KTM’s brand is used by KTM Fahrrad GmbH, which manufactures bicycles and accessories.
