Company overview
Land Rover is a brand of predominantly four-wheel drive, off-road capable vehicles manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), since 2008. JLR builds these vehicles in Brazil, China, India, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. The Land Rover name originated in 1948 for a utilitarian four-wheel drive vehicle. Initially, the marque included models such as the 1970 Range Rover and later the Discovery and Defender. From 1948 until 1997, all Land Rovers used boxed-section vehicle frames. In 1978, Land Rover became a separate subsidiary of British Leyland, and in 2006, Ford Motor Company acquired the brand. Tata Motors ultimately purchased Jaguar Land Rover in 2008, forming Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC. Production of vehicles is currently located in five countries: the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Brazil, India and China. Sales of Land Rover vehicles tripled between 2008/09 and 2014/15, reaching a peak in 2016/17 before declining.
