Company overview

LDV Group Limited was formed in 1993 as a result of a management buyout of DAF NV's van plant in Washwood Heath, Birmingham. Prior to this, it was part of the British Leyland/Rover Group empire and manufactured subsequent generations of the Leyland Sherpa. From 1994, it operated as LDV. In 2006, GAZ acquired LDV, with plans for expanded production in Russia and export to Australia. Production at the Birmingham factory was suspended in December 2008 due to a lack of investment. Intellectual property rights were subsequently sold to Eco Concept in 2009, and then to SAIC Motor in 2010, with Maxus production commencing in China in March 2011. LDV produced a range of panel vans, pick-ups and minibuses, primarily for large British corporations. The company sponsored Aston Villa Football Club from 1998 to 2000 and St Mirren Football Club from 2000 to 2003.
