LeEco is a Chinese conglomerate founded by Jia Yueting. It began as Letv, a streaming video company that went public in 2004 and introduced the LeEco brand. The group expanded into diverse sectors including video streaming, cloud services, consumer electronics (such as smartphones and smart TVs), electric bicycles, electric cars, film production, real estate, and eCommerce. In 2014, LeEco announced its Super Electric Ecosystem (SEE) Project and launched the Le Superphone, quickly becoming a leading smartphone seller in China. The company expanded internationally, establishing offices in the United States, India, and Russia. Between 2016 and 2018, LeEco experienced financial difficulties and sold off various assets, including Leshi Zhixin Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and Le Vision Pictures to Sunac. In October 2018, Le.com announced it would not be sold and was exploring solutions to its financial issues. The company’s US operations were shut down in March 2018, and Jia Yueting fled China. LeEco’s subsidiaries include LeMusic, LeMobile (producing smartphones), and LeVR, which invested in virtual reality technology.
