Company overview
Monteverdi was a Swiss automotive manufacturer established in 1967 by Peter Monteverdi. Initially, the company produced exclusive high-performance luxury sports and touring cars, starting with the Monteverdi High Speed 375S in 1967. These early models utilized a steel frame from Stahlbau Muttenz GmbH and bodywork designed by Pietro Frua, sharing design elements with other Frua creations. Production of these cars concluded in 1976, after approximately 1,300 vehicles were built. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Monteverdi collaborated with Carrozzeria Fissore to produce additional models, including the 375/L and 375/C. Later, Monteverdi shifted to boutique car conversions, starting with the Monteverdi Safari based on the International Scout. The company also produced the Monteverdi Sierra, a sedan derived from a Plymouth Volaré, and the Monteverdi Tiara based on the Mercedes S-Class. In 1978, Monteverdi began a partnership with Land Rover to produce Range Rover conversions. Production ceased in 1982, and the factory was transformed into a museum. Monteverdi also experimented with Formula One racing in 1961 and 1990.
