Company overview

Nash Motors Company was founded in 1916 by Charles W. Nash, building upon the Thomas B. Jeffery Company and its Rambler line. From 1916 to 1937, Nash produced automobiles in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In 1937, the company merged with Hudson Motors to form American Motors Corporation (AMC). Nash continued automobile production under AMC from 1954 through 1957. Innovations included the introduction of a ventilation system in 1938, unibody construction in 1941, seat belts in 1950, and a U.S.-built compact car (the Rambler) in 1950. The company pioneered features such as four-wheel drive trucks (the Quad) and a one-piece curved safety glass windshield. Nash’s slogan emphasized providing customers with more than they paid for, and the company was among the first to offer four-wheel brakes. In 1949, Nash introduced the Airflyte, a radically aerodynamic design utilizing wind tunnel testing. The company’s final product, the Nash Rambler, was a successful compact car introduced in 1950.
