Company overview

Pegaso was a Spanish manufacturer of trucks, buses, tractors, armored vehicles, and sports cars. Established in 1946 as a subsidiary of Enasa, the company initially focused on producing trucks and buses for the Spanish market. By 1974, Pegaso had built over 350,000 vehicles and became a leading European industrial vehicle maker, exporting to countries including Benelux, Venezuela, and Cuba. The company produced a diverse range of vehicles, from the early Pegaso I and II to advanced models like the Z-207 truck with a V6 engine, and innovative coaches such as the Monotral. In the 1960s and 70s, Pegaso significantly contributed to Spain’s economic growth by supplying trucks and buses for domestic use and international trade. The company also developed specialized vehicles, including military tactical trucks and armored vehicles for the Spanish Army, as well as caterpillar tractors and industrial loaders. Following a joint takeover attempt by Daimler-Benz and MAN, Iveco acquired Enasa in 1990. Pegaso’s product lines were subsequently phased out, though the brand continues to be used by Iveco as a secondary brand.
