Company overview
Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, commonly known as Porsche, is a German automobile manufacturer specializing in luxury sports cars, SUVs, and sedans. Established in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche with Adolf Rosenberger and Anton Piëch, the company initially contracted with the German government to design a vehicle for the masses – the Volkswagen Beetle. Following World War II, Ferry Porsche continued the company’s work, building the first Porsche 356 in Austria. The company's logo is derived from the coat of arms of Württemberg, reflecting its Stuttgart headquarters. In 1972, Porsche transitioned to a public limited company (AG) due to concerns about the family’s role in the business. Ferdinand Piëch, a nephew of Ferdinand Porsche, later became chairman of Volkswagen Group and remains a significant shareholder. Porsche has collaborated with Toyota to implement lean manufacturing techniques, and in 2002 introduced the Cayenne. The 911 remains Porsche’s most successful model, and in 2022, the company announced plans for an IPO.
