Company overview

Rinspeed Inc. was founded in 1979 by Frank M. Rinderknecht. Initially, the company imported vehicles from AMG and AC Schnitzer in Switzerland during the 1980s. Rinspeed began showcasing designs at events like the Geneva Motor Show and the Consumer Electronics Show. The company developed concept cars, including the zaZen based on a Porsche 911 platform and powered by a flat-6 engine. The sQuba, introduced in 2008, is an amphibious vehicle inspired by James Bond’s ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’. Rinspeed demonstrated other concept vehicles such as the Splash, an amphibious hydrofoil car, and the iChange, a transforming vehicle controlled by an Apple iPhone. In 2015, Rinspeed presented the Budii concept with advanced sensor technology for autonomous driving. The Ʃtos concept was shown at CES in 2016, based on the BMW i8. Finally, Rinspeed introduced the Oasis in 2017, integrating autonomous vehicle technologies and social media into a compact car.
