SWM began as a motorcycle manufacturer in Milan, Italy, in 1971. In 2014, Xinyuan Holdings Co., Ltd. in Chongqing, China, acquired the brand. SWM officially entered the passenger car market in 2016 with a launch event in Beijing. The company maintains design centers in Milan and manufacturing facilities in Chongqing, China. From 2016 through 2022, SWM produced a range of SUV models. It has increasingly focused on new energy vehicle development, including hybrid and electric models since 2022. SWM’s operations include vehicle design, engine development, and performance matching across its facilities. The company currently produces a variety of models including the G01, G05, X3, and X7. SWM has expanded its global sales presence to include markets in Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.
