Company overview

Tata Motors Limited is an Indian multinational commercial vehicle manufacturer headquartered in Mumbai. Established in 1954 through a joint venture with Daimler-Benz, the company initially focused on manufacturing truck chassis. Following India’s economic liberalization in 1991, Tata Motors expanded its operations and product range. In 2024, a demerger occurred, separating the commercial vehicles business into TML Commercial Vehicles and retaining passenger vehicle operations, including Jaguar Land Rover, under Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles. TML Commercial Vehicles was subsequently renamed Tata Motors. The company manufactures a wide range of commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, with production facilities located in Jamshedpur, Lucknow, Pantnagar, and Dharwad. Notable subsidiaries include Tata Daewoo, a South Korean commercial vehicle manufacturer acquired in 2004, and Tata Marcopolo, a joint venture with Brazil-based Marcopolo S.A., producing buses and coaches. Historically, Tata Motors operated through subsidiaries such as Tata Hispano Motors Carrocera, which ceased production in 2013. Key vehicles include the Tata Ace (launched in 2005), Tata Xenon/Yodha, and Tata Prima.
