Company overview
ZAZ, or Zaporizhzhia Automobile Building Plant, is Ukraine's primary automobile manufacturer based in Zaporizhzhia. Established in 1863 as a factory for agricultural machinery parts, it evolved through several iterations including the Melitopol Motor Plant (MeMZ) and Kommunar. In 1960, the plant began producing its first car, the ZAZ-965 "Zaporozhets," which became a popular model throughout the Soviet Union. Production continued through 1994, with over 3.4 million vehicles manufactured. The company transitioned to producing the ZAZ-1102 "Tavria" in 1988, a front-wheel drive car. Following the collapse of Daewoo Motors in 2001, UkrAVTO acquired AvtoZAZ. In 2003, Hirsch & CIE purchased Daewoo's stake in the joint venture. Today, ZAZ operates as PJSC "ZAZ" and is currently Ukraine's sole producer of a complete passenger car production cycle, encompassing stamping, welding, painting, and assembly. The company utilizes ISO 9001 standards.
