Company overview

Autobianchi was an Italian automobile manufacturer established in 1955 through a joint venture between Bianchi, Pirelli, and Fiat. The company produced a limited number of small cars during its existence, with the most notable models being the Bianchina and the A112. Initially, Autobianchi focused on developing innovative concepts for Fiat, including fibreglass bodies and front-wheel drive technology. The Bianchina, based on Fiat 500 mechanics, was a premium city car introduced in 1957. Later, the Autobianchi Primula pioneered front-wheel drive with a transverse engine, influencing numerous subsequent vehicle designs. In 1968, Bianchi sold its stake in the company, and Autobianchi became integrated into Fiat. The A112, a successful supermini similar to the Innocenti Mini, was produced from 1969 until 1986. The Y10 followed, based on the Fiat Panda and marketed as a Lancia in most markets. Production ceased in 1996, with the Autobianchi brand officially ending.
