Company overview
Citroën is a French automobile brand currently owned by Stellantis. Founded in 1919 by André Citroën, the company began with gear manufacturing before transitioning to automobile production. Early innovations included the Traction Avant in 1934, a car featuring unitary body construction, independent front suspension, and front-wheel drive. In 1954, Citroën introduced the hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system and the DS in 1955, a car with modern disc brakes. During World War II, Citroën, under the leadership of Pierre-Jules Boulanger, resisted Nazi efforts to utilize its vehicles for military purposes. The company produced the 2CV (1948) and DS (1955), both of which achieved significant sales success. Citroën’s hydraulic technology became a defining feature, utilized in over nine million vehicles throughout its history.
