Company overview

The Davis Motorcar Company operated in Van Nuys, California, from 1947 to 1948. Glenn Gordon "Gary" Davis founded the company after acquiring a prototype from designer Frank Kurtis. The company produced three-wheeled automobiles, including the "Baby" and "Divan" models. These vehicles used a Hercules engine and featured four-across seating. Davis developed a military variant, the Model 494, for testing with the Pentagon. The company experienced financial difficulties and ultimately declared bankruptcy in 1948. Legal issues arose due to missed delivery deadlines and unpaid funds. Gary Davis was convicted of theft and sentenced to prison. Assets were sold in 1950, with Wayne Miller retaining the remaining company property. Sixteen franchise holders formed Delta Motor Car Company in an attempt to continue production, but the venture failed due to lack of funds.
