Company overview

Diatto was founded in 1835 in Turin, Italy. It began as a carriage workshop and later produced railway carriages for international transport companies like Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. In 1905, the company’s grandsons established Diatto-Clément in partnership with Clément-Bayard. This venture produced motor vehicles under license and achieved significant sporting success, winning numerous competitions in Europe during the early 1900s. By 1909, Diatto acquired full ownership of Autocostruzioni Diatto and began developing its own vehicles. The company expanded significantly in the 1910s, acquiring other factories and increasing production capacity. Diatto also acquired a controlling share of Gnome et Rhône, an aviation engine manufacturer, integrating their technology into motor vehicles. Production ceased in 1929.
