Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd. (ZGH) was founded in 1986 as a refrigerator parts manufacturer and transitioned to motorcycle production in 1994. It began automotive manufacturing in 1997, becoming the first private automobile company in China. In 2003, ZGH was established as a holding company owned by Li Shufu. The company acquired Volvo Cars in 2010 and Manganese Bronze Holdings in 2013, restructuring it into London Electric Vehicle Company. In 2017, ZGH acquired Lotus Cars and established Lynk & Co as a new brand. As of 2023, ZGH ranked 225th on the Fortune Global 500 list. The company’s brands include Geely, Lynk & Co, Zeekr, and various subsidiaries like Volvo Cars, Proton, Smart, Lotus, and commercial vehicle brands. It holds a 17% stake in Aston Martin and owns half of Horse Powertrain, a joint venture with Renault. In 2024, ZGH formed strategic partnerships with Daimler/Mercedes-Benz and Renault to develop electric vehicles and powertrain technology.
