Company overview

Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH was founded in 2004 in Altenburg, Germany. The company developed the Gumpert Apollo sports car with assistance from technical universities and engineering firms. Roland Gumpert initiated the project, aiming to create a street-legal car suitable for racing at Le Mans. The Apollo utilized a 4,163 cc bi-turbo Audi V8 engine, available in three power outputs: 650 PS, 700 PS, and 800 PS. Production began in October 2005. The car was designed as a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive two-seater with a chromoly tubular frame and fiberglass or carbon fiber body panels. Initial reviews praised the car's speed and handling, with one test driver noting a recalibration of driving feel. The Apollo achieved a lap time of 7:11.57 at the Nürburgring. Production ceased in August 2013 following the company’s bankruptcy.
