Company overview

Haynes-Apperson Company operated from 1893/1894 to 1905 in Kokomo, Indiana. Elwood Haynes and his brothers, Elmer and Edgar Apperson, founded the company at Apperson's Riverside Machine Works. The company produced automobiles and began with one car every two to three weeks. Production increased significantly over the years, reaching 240 cars in 1901. Haynes-Apperson automobiles competed in endurance races, including the Chicago Times-Herald race in 1895. The company designed and built several models, including the Light Car and Tonneau. In 1902, the founders decided to split up, leading to the formation of the Apperson automobile company and the renaming of Haynes-Apperson as the Haynes Automobile Company in 1905. An example of their work is an 1894 model currently held by the Smithsonian Institution.
