Company overview

HRG Engineering Company, based in Tolworth, Surrey, was established in 1936 by Major Edward Halford, Guy Robins and Henry Ronald Godfrey. The company’s name derived from the initials of its founders. HRG produced cars between 1935 and 1956, initially using Meadows engines. In 1938, they began utilizing Singer engines and gearboxes, including the Bantam Nine and Twelve. Post-World War II, HRG continued to manufacture two-seat models based on pre-war designs and introduced the Aerodynamic model. Guy Robins left in 1950, and S. R. Proctor became technical director. Racing activity was conducted through the Ecurie Lapin Blanc team, achieving success in various British and European races throughout the 1930s and 40s. Production ceased in 1956, but the company continued as an engineering and development organization for other firms. As of 2006, approximately 225 of the 241 cars produced remain in use, with some competing in classic trials and VSCC races. These vehicles are commonly referred to as ‘Hurgs’ by their owners, and an owners association exists.
