Iran Khodro (IKCO) is an Iranian automaker headquartered in Tehran. Established in 1962 as Iran National, it has grown to become the largest vehicle manufacturer in the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa. IKCO produces a range of vehicles including Samand, Peugeot, Renault, trucks, minibuses and buses. The company began with the Paykan, a car based on the Rootes Group’s Arrow range. Throughout its history, IKCO has established joint ventures with foreign manufacturers such as Peugeot and Renault, importing components from Europe. In 2009, it produced 688,000 passenger cars annually. As of 2015, IKCO’s strategic plans focused on product development including body design, die making, and powertrain technology. The company has qualified for ISO 9001 certification. IKCO’s subsidiaries include Supplying Automotive Parts Company (SAPCO), IKCO Spare Parts and After-Sale Services Co. (ISACO), Iran Khodro Power Train Co. (IPCO), TAM Co., Samand Investment Co., Iran Khodro Rail transport Industries Company (IRICO) and Iran Khodro Diesel Company. The company has exported vehicles to countries including Russia, Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Egypt, Algeria and Bulgaria.
