Company overview

Mastretta Cars was established in Mexico City in 1987 by industrial designer Daniel Mastretta. During the 1990s, the company developed kit cars under the brands Tecnoidea and Unediseño. The MXT, introduced in 2007, was the first vehicle developed for international commercial availability. Mastretta focused on designing and engineering microbus and urban bus chassis during the 1990s. The Unediseño-Mastretta MXA kit car used a Volkswagen Beetle chassis and engine. The company produced the MXT in Mexico City, utilizing U.S.-made engine and transmission components while fabricating its chassis, body, and interior in Mexico. Mastretta’s logo features a shield with the colors of the Mexican flag and a checkered racing stripe. Other Mexican automotive companies, such as Dina, Ramirez Industrial Group, VAM and D.M. Nacional, had produced vehicles since the 1950s.
