Company overview
Ruf Automobile GmbH, founded in 1939 in Germany, began as a service garage and expanded into a manufacturer of performance parts for Porsche vehicles. Initially, Ruf utilized Porsche bodies in white to build its cars. The company gained prominence in 1987 with the Ruf CTR, which achieved a top speed of 339 km/h. Subsequent models, including the CTR2 and CTR3, continued to push performance boundaries. Ruf developed its own chassis and body designs starting in 1975, exemplified by the CTR Anniversary (2017) and SCR (2018). These models utilize unique engines, such as a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six in the CTR Anniversary and a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter engine in the SCR. Ruf also produces electric vehicles, such as the eRuf Model A, utilizing a UQM Technologies propulsion system. Historically, Ruf models have been used in video games as a substitute for Porsche vehicles due to licensing agreements. The company’s history is marked by its independent operation and focus on high-performance Porsche derivatives.
