Company overview
Rumpler, founded by Austrian engineer Edmund Rumpler, developed the Tropfenwagen in 1921. This car was designed with a streamlined shape to reduce drag, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.28 at the time. It featured a unique rear-mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and curved windows. Rumpler initially produced the car for taxi use in Berlin, valuing ease of passenger access and a tall interior. Later, Benz & Cie. utilized the Rumpler chassis to create racing cars, including the Mercedes-Benz Tropfenwagen racers. Production of the Rumpler vehicles ceased in 1925, with only two examples currently existing. The Tropfenwagen gained further recognition through its appearance in the film *Metropolis* and influenced subsequent road car designs.
