Company overview
UMM, established in 1977 in Lisbon, Portugal, began as a metal works factory. It initially focused on producing four-wheel drive vehicles for agricultural, industrial, and utility purposes. The company acquired the rights to the Cournil design from French engineering firm SIMI in the 1970s. UMM then rebranded and began manufacturing its own line of 4x4 vehicles. These vehicles gained recognition for their durability, particularly during participation in the Paris-Dakar rally. UMM produced vehicles for various sectors including military, utility services, and private individuals in countries such as Spain, Portugal, Cape Verde, France, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In 1994, UMM ceased private sales but continued to fulfill large orders for military and utility services. A notable vehicle was built in 1992 to transport Pope John Paul II.
