Company overview

Public Joint-Stock Company – Likhachov Plant, commonly known as ZiL, was established in 1916 as the Moscow Automotive Society. Initially tasked with assembling and repairing American and Italian vehicles, ZiL transitioned to domestic automobile production in the 1950s. The factory produced trucks, military vehicles, and luxury limousines for the Soviet elite during the period of Communist rule. ZiL’s limousines were used by Soviet heads of state and allied leaders for international summits. Production ceased in 2012, with the last vehicle assembled in 2012 and the factory liquidated by 2020. Currently, ZiL operates as a real estate development company on its former Moscow site. The factory received numerous awards during its operation, including the Order of Lenin and the Order of the October Revolution. In 2003, ZiL was transferred to the management of the Moscow Automobile Company.
