Company overview
Chrysler, originally founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler from the Maxwell Motor Company, evolved into one of the “Big Three” American automobile manufacturers. Initially focused on engineering innovation and affordable luxury, Chrysler expanded its brand portfolio through acquisitions including Dodge Brothers in 1928 and American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1987, bringing Jeep vehicles into its ownership. Facing challenges from increased import competition and regulatory changes in the 1970s, Chrysler sought government assistance and ultimately underwent a significant restructuring. In 1985, Diamond-Star Motors was created to further integrate with Mitsubishi Motors. The company’s operations were reorganized multiple times, including a bankruptcy filing in 2009 and subsequent acquisition by Fiat S.p.A., culminating in the formation of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and later Stellantis, as a result of the 2021 merger with PSA Group. Throughout its history, Chrysler has adapted to changing market conditions and technological advancements.
