Company overview

Infiniti is the luxury car division of Nissan, established in 1989. Initially launched in North America to compete with Lexus and Acura, it began with the Q45 and M30 models. The brand initially focused on sporty luxury vehicles, introducing models like the J30 and later the G35. By the mid-1990s, Infiniti lagged behind its competitors in sales. The company revitalized itself in the early 2000s, driven by Carlos Ghosn’s Nissan Revival Plan and the introduction of the Q45 flagship. The G35, inspired by Japanese performance sedans, became a key sales driver. Infiniti expanded its European presence in 2008 and introduced new models like the FX35/45 and EX35. In 2011, the G series accounted for a significant portion of sales. In 2012, Infiniti moved its global headquarters to Hong Kong and began production outside Japan. More recently, in 2018, Nissan announced plans to transform Infiniti into an electric brand. As of 2019, the brand exited the Western European market due to poor sales and Brexit uncertainty.
