Company overview

Lifan Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., established in 1992, is a Chinese manufacturer specializing in motorcycles and automobiles. Initially founded as a motorcycle repair shop in Chongqing, China, Lifan began producing microvans and a sedan in 2005. The company’s product range includes passenger cars, microvans, dirt bike engines, entry-level motorcycles, mini-vehicles, and commercial trucks. Lifan has expanded its operations internationally, with assembly plants in Azerbaijan, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Russia, Uruguay and the Philippines. It began exporting motorcycles to 18 European countries in 2003, and automobiles to over 51 countries by 2010. As of 2024, Lifan Technology, formerly Lifan Group, is focused on original vehicle development for taxi customers and battery swap support. The company’s founder, Yin Mingshan, and his family hold a substantial fortune. In 2021, Lifan was renamed Lifan Technology and restructured with new investors, including Geely Holding Group. The company has faced challenges, including a significant debt load and a trademark dispute with Honda Motor.
